More Strings

Hello All!  How is everyone on this snowy Tuesday?  Well, it's snowing at my house again.  Can I say I'm tired of all this snow?!  We're expecting another 3-6 inches of this dreaded white stuff.  Thankfully, Amelia is on a winter break for school so today doesn't count against her.

I have been keeping up with my sewing.  My personal goal was to have 12 additional string blocks done by the end of February and I'm happy to say, I made my goal.  24 string blocks done.

I need to dig through my stash a little more.  I have a bunch of strings cut but I'm tired of the repeats so time to expand further into the stash.  I will say that my sewing room is a disaster.  Bins of fabrics all over.  Fabrics thrown willy-nilly back on the shelf.  But I am so focused on the sewing, I'm ignoring the rest of the room.

My next goal with this project is to have 16-20 (24 would be nice) more blocks completed by the end of April.  Ultimate end is 36 blocks. I think that would make for a nice sized lap quilt.

LOL!  If Jen knew how to add!!  If 36 is my ultimate goal, I only need 12 more blocks.  DUH!  40 blocks wouldn't be bad either.

Enjoy your day!!

Detoured because of Strings

String blocks.  I've been wanting to make a quilt with string blocks.  I have several layout ideas pinned on one of my Pinterest boards.  It's just a task I didn't want to undertake since I don't prep my scraps when I get them. They either go in Punk's bucket if the piece is big enough for her to play with or in the trash if they really are too tiny to do anything with.  I did make a string block wall hanging 3 years ago - in January!

Stephanie from Loft Creations posted about some "potato chip sewing" she had been doing.  Once you start, you can't stop.  Once I saw her string blocks I knew I needed to push myself to cut into my stash and make scraps of my own.

I found some muslin tucked away on my shelf and I cut it up into 9.5" squares for some foundation and off I went.  12 blocks completed because I ran out of foundation squares.  I am take pause on this endeavor for a bit.  I dragged out a bunch of fabrics and I would like to spend some time cutting different strip widths.  Organize myself a little bit.  That will make my block sewing go much faster.  I've been cutting strips as I went so the process was slow.

I made one black and white block (upper left) that is sticking out a bit too much for me so I will make a couple more just to balance it.  I like the block and want to use it in this quilt.

Okay.  NOW I'm going to focus on my husband's quilt and get the borders on my Scrappy Trip quilt top.  After those are done, shift focus back to Home to Roost.  Lots of stuff going on here.

Enjoy your day!

Sew-In Sunday

I had a sew-in Sunday.  It felt good to be in my sewing room for most of the day.  I didn't get as much done as I would have liked but I got a couple projects done and out of the way so I'm satisfied.

When I was working on my Be Mine tutorial, I made a practice block out of some scraps to see how the project would all come together.  Since the scraps were from the quilt that I made for my Punk, I finished the block into a pillow for her bed.

Here's the back...

I think she will like it.  But now I have to hit Joanns for another pillow form since I stole borrowed this one from my Be My Valentine pillow.

I finished my Spring/Summer scrappy string block wallhanging.  It will be ready for quilting soon.  I had a little trouble with executing this.  Scrappy quilts are NOT ME.  I had a very hard time not making the blocks match!  So to combat this, I did not think about my string layout too much.  I just picked out of my stash, trimmed it to the width I needed and sewed them on.  Only thing I made sure of was that the blocks were kind of balanced on each side with strength of colors and such.  Now that it's done, I like it.  :)  I think I want to make a table runner.  But I think I'll make my table runner red, white and aqua.  A bit more matchy-matchy for me.

Here's a close up of the strings.

I have one more finish to show you but that will have to wait until tomorrow.  It's nice to post more than once a week.  Hopefully my sewing mojo is back for a while!

Enjoy your day!
