Strawberry Jelly

Working through my ever-growing WIPs and I pulled out those jelly roll sampler blocks.  Man.  They are a bit chaotic looking.  Kim had set her top with a wonky block setting.  I liked it and I copied her.  Don't judge me.  I'm not a leader, I'm a total follower.  :)

I've completed 8 blocks.  And then I ran out of Kona white.  Now I have to go get more.  So far, I'm liking how it's coming together.  This quilt is DEFINITELY for Punkie.

I have the backing for this quilt already.  And to do some practicing, I think I'm going to attempt to quilt it myself.

Enjoy your day!

Layer Cake Quilt Along - block 7 & 8

In between working on my pinwheel sampler over the weekend, I worked on getting blocks 7 & 8 done for the layer cake quilt along.

The pinwheel gets lost in block 7 due to my choice of fabric and fabric orientation.  It's a little busy with all the purple swirls.  It will have to do.  I'm running out of fabric.  I think there are 2 more blocks in the quilt along (I'm still two behind) and then I can decide on what kind of block to make to replace the ones that I decided against even making.  So I'm actually 4 blocks behind.

This will make a cute quilt for Amelia.  My goal is to get this one done and the Jelly Roll blocks that I worked on last year done and give her 2 new quilts for Christmas.  I have no excuses.  My jelly roll blocks are done; they just need to be put into quilt top form.  I even have the backing for it!  Once my pinwheels are done, the jelly roll blocks are coming out.  :)

The Last Three

Before leaving on our last summer vacation hurrah to New Hampshire, I finished the last three blocks for my Jelly Roll Sampler.  I like how they came out.

Block 10

Block 11

Block 12

Now I need to find some border fabric and get more white for the block sashing.  I already got my backing fabric.  I have plans to get the top together and quilted for Amelia for Christmas.  Now that this sew along is done, I will work on my Fat Quarter Shop BOM and go back to the quilt that I started cutting months ago but never finished.  And maybe go back to my pinwheel quilt.  :)

Enjoy your day!

Jelly Roll Sampler - Block Nine

Here's my block 9.  I got it done yesterday.  One more thing off my To Do list; which seems to be growing and not getting any shorter.

And here are all nine together.

Three more blocks to go.  It seems to be coming together.  I think the next block I'll try and make it without the background fabric (solid white).  The one block with no white in it at all (first row, second one) kind of sticks out now.  Maybe I'll do the last three with no background fabric if I can help it.

I've decided on my backing fabric.  I just need to decide on my outer border fabric.  I'm thinking the blue with the strawberries on it.  There isn't much out there to chose from.  Very little and those that are available, I really don't like.  I haven't even used those particular fabric strips in my blocks yet.

I do have a little show and tell from the Vermont Quilt Festival that I went to last weekend.  I just need to get them all downloaded.  If you're interested, I'll post them!  :)

Enjoy your day!

Friday Night Sew In - Results

I didn't get as much done as I would have liked.  I had a little person very curious as to what I was doing... no matter how much Daddy was supposed to keep an eye on her for me.

So.  This is what I got done.  Block eight for the Jelly Roll Sampler.  I really like how this one came out.  I really do.  I changed the center 9 patch a bit.  I think Kim did the same which is probably where I got my inspiration from.  I really didn't like the look of this block to begin with.  I thought it was very busy looking.  I changed 4 of the strip pieced blocks to 4 solid and I really like it.

The other thing I got done were a couple of pillowcases for Amelia.  Cute.  I love the yellow Birdie fabric.  I got my inspiration from Twiddletails.  She made the same pillowcases and I knew Amelia would love them.  I tried a new pillowcase tutorial which I really, really like!  No raw edges anywhere and EASY to do!  None of this "burrito" folding or what-have-you.

I really wanted to get the borders on Amelia's quilt but it was so hot in the house.  The AC was slow to get going and I just didn't feel like messing anything up so I stopped after getting the pillowcases done and jumped into the shower to cool off.

Okay, Amelia really wants to go outside and splash in her pool so I must be going.  Have a great day!

Jelly Roll Sampler - Block Seven

Here's block 7 for my JRS.  Cute.  I like it but it could have used a bit more contrast.  I'm trying to use each strip at least once before I go back and use a repeat.  I'm running low on my darker stuff.  I take a great crooked picture, don't I??

Here are all 7 blocks put together.  This is going to be one colorful quilt top.  Giving it to Punkie for sure.  I'm don't know if I like them all together.

Another Finish and Zippers

What a boring post title.

I got my 6th block finished for the Jelly Roll Sampler done.  CUTE!

Another thing I tried was installing and sewing zippers.  I tried once and my attempt didn't come out very well.  So I never tried again.  Until I saw Jen's cute little pouches.  I needed to hunt down the pattern (my LQS had it - last one too!) and give it a try.

SUCCESS!  I'm quite pleased in how it turned out.  I have a bunch of fat quarters that I bought a few years ago when I started my sewing adventures and never used them.  Now, when I look at them, I have no idea what drew me to them.  So I put a few to good use and made a practice pouch.  I love how I even had a button to match!

Why is this picture orientated wrong??  It's fine in my picture folder.  Darn blogger!

I gave this one to Punkie.  She saw it and immediately asked if it was for her.  How could I say no.  She has since filled it with her pennies.  LOL.

I'm going to make these for Amelia's teachers as end of the year thank you gifts.  I think I'm going to put a gift card to Target in each of them.  Just have to sit with Amelia and pick out some fabrics to use.

But this has me thinking, I wonder how hard it would be to install zippers using tote patterns that don't have them?  It can't be that hard, can it?

Jelly Roll Sampler - Block Five

I had some time today before picking up Amelia from my in-laws so I got block 5 done for the Jelly Roll Sampler that I'm participating in.

This one is blue and yellow.  I like it!

And here are all 5 so far, together.

Jelly Roll Sampler - Block Four

Here's my block 4.  Quick and easy.  Not too crazy about the block but took me minutes to put together.

Here are all 4 of my blocks so far.  I need to add MORE BLUE!

Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along - Block Three

Here's my third block.  Piece of cake to put together.

I put all three blocks together and I noticed one thing... my blocks are very green heavy.  Need to add more blue.  Mental note for block four... use more blue!

Enjoy your day!

Jelly Roll Sampler - Block Two

Here it is.  A bit obnoxious, yes?  I agree.  Of course it was my choice to use these three fabrics together.  I have NO IDEA what I was thinking.  But what's done is done and I can live with it.

Being that this sampler is a mystery it's hard to decide which fabrics to use.  And my jelly roll isn't very "quiet" either.

The more I stare at it, the more it gives me a headache.

BUT everything lines up so nice.  There's always a bright side.  ;)

Enjoy your day!

Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along - Block One

I joined the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along at the last minute.  Kris emailed me to have me talk her OUT of doing it and I convinced her to do it.  LOL.  So we're doing it together.

Now, this is my second attempt at this block.  My first block, I was SO proud of myself.  Everything was lining up beautifully.  I was jazzed.  Then I put the block together.  GRRRRRR!  Nothing was going right.  I decided to try once more.  My 9 patch was off.  I swore and stormed off to vent to my husband (and Kris).  My 1/4" foot has a guide on it... the guide was bent out by just a weeeee bit.  I'm soooo glad my husband is the man he is.  He fixed it for me and now my block is perfect.

Wanna see?

I personally like me first block better.  The border is the blue of this print.  So I think I'm going to take that one apart, fix it so that it all lines up nicey-nice and use it on the back.

I'm using this jelly roll...

One of the first jelly rolls I bought but never used.  It even came in a cute little tin.  I think that's why I bought it actually.  I liked the little tin.  LOL.

But you know what?  I finished block three of the pinwheel sampler quilt along today too... since my 1/4" foot was off.... my first four blocks are TOO SMALL!!!!!  I'll have to re-do those too.

I can't win.  But that's okay.  I can deal with it.

Hope you're enjoying your Sunday?  I sure did!  I sewed for most of it!
