Birdie Stitches and Super Josh

June Birdie Stitches is done and only 3 months behind.  Not bad.  I may just finish this quilt after all!  Terry had modified the June block and shared her idea on her blog.  While I liked the original June block, I left it looked out of place in the grand scheme of things if you were to lay out the blocks in month order.  If it was in the center of the quilt, I think it would have worked.  I'm kicking the idea around of still making the original June block but using it on the back.

ANY-way.  I liked Terry's change and I followed her lead.

Onto Super Josh.  My cousin's little boy is turning 3 next Saturday and she asked me if I would make him a cape.  Well, OF COURSE!  Punk is my model and now I need to make HER one.  My very talented brother took the original Superman logo and substituted the "S" for a "J".  Now it's SUPER JOSH!  Yes, yes.  I KNOW the logo on the cape is supposed to be yellow with a black outline but I didn't like it!  It looked so boring.  So I used the colors from the logo on Superman's chest instead.  Much better.

IGNORE THE MESS!
Again, IGNORE THE MESS!
Ellyn?  Do you see your chickens?!  LOL!!

I found this tutorial online and I'm glad I had Amelia model Josh's.  It's a little snug for her in the neck.  So I'll have to adjust when I make her "pink and purple with flowers and Super Amelia written out" cape.

I'm very excited to give Josh his cape.  I hope he loves it!

Enjoy your day!

Birdie Stitches - April and May

I'm only 3 months behind now (soon to be 4) but I'm getting there.  I bought myself a new gadget to help me with my stitching.  An OttLite LED flip light.  It's nice because there is a clip on the back.  I can clip it to the front of my shirt and get extra lighting to see what I'm doing.  ONLY fault of this handy gadget, the clamshell is HARD to open.  I broke a nail trying to do that.  And you can't keep it open because the light stays on.  Instead of an on/off switch, it's a push button inside the flip top.  It's only engaged off when the light is completely shut.  But that's my only complaint about that.

Okay, I worked on my April and May Birdie stitches blocks.  June is in the hoop, ready to go whenever I'm ready to sit down and start.
April
May
No real sewing going on here again.  Sunday was Amelia's 6th birthday party (her actual birthday is Thursday) so yesterday was a chill out day.  Today, I'm not feeling very well.  My head is heavy and my ears are blocked.  I'm just going with the flow and easing through my day.  I am taking Amelia bowling this afternoon.  Just to have something to do.

I started (briefly) my new Bliss tote.  Quickly realizing that I really need to replace my walking foot (it's broken) or I will be swearing at this new tote.  Sigh.

Enjoy your day!

Birdie Stitches - March Block

I told you I would be back.  I may even post tomorrow!

First off, I would like to say how BORED I am right now.  This not working is the pits.  I have been trying to keep busy here at home.  You know - laundry, dishes, vacuuming... general picking up the house.  But you can only do that for so long.  I've been wanting to go to the library and drop off the books that I've collected from Amelia's room and from around the house to donate to their book sale but I've been too lazy to get in the car and drive.  I've been wanting to go to my LQS to spend the gift certificate that my team gifted me before I left but I feel guilty spending the money.  So here I sit.  Sewing projects have been worked on but again, I feel guilty staying in my sewing room all day while my husband works.  I'm waiting for the weather to warm up so that I can at least get outside.  The sun is actually shining today but it's COLD. I don't want to work in the garden with a heavy winter coat on.

Okay, enough whining out of me.  Here's what I've finished....

I added that little pot of gold.  The block just needed it
January - March blocks
I'm getting better with my stitch length.  Just a tad.  I tend to get off-kilter when I'm tired but the blocks are coming along.  I'll be starting the April block this week sometime.  I have my border fabrics picked out.  Should be a cute block once I'm done.

I'll be back tomorrow to show some more progress being made here.

Enjoy your day!

Done. Just in time too.

Phew!  I finished block 2 of the Birdie Stitches BOM last night.  All I had left to work on were the floating hearts and the eyeballs for the birds.  But finding the time to sit down and work on it proved difficult.  Found the time last night and my block is done.  I strayed just a tad from the stitchery pattern.  I added more floating hearts and got rid of the running stitches that were there.

Overall, I like my block!

And here is block 1 and 2 together.  I have plans to head to my LQS on Thursday to hunt down some St. Patrick's Day fabric or the like.  I have green in my stash but not a good shamrock or kelly green.  But when the next month's block debutes tomorrow and it's not St. Patrick's Day themed, I won't have to worry about the green fabric.

Birdie Stitches - Block One

I finished the first block in the Birdie Stitches BOM.  I like it.  Since hand embroidery is a new-to-me skill, I need to work on my stitch lengths.  I'm a bit uneven in places.   But in the grand scheme of things, I'm happy with the results.

One thing I did different was I did a solid border around the blocks with cornerstones instead of a scrappy block border.  I like that much better.  This idea suits me.  And I like that the fabric reminds me of snowflakes... of course as I'm sitting here writing this post, I just thought of 2 fabrics in my stash that have actual snowflakes on them!  Oh well.  I like this fabric choice better.

I'm ready for February's block!

I am a SUCKER for cute! And Be Mine Blog Tour Day 4

I tried very hard.  VERY hard but then I popped onto the Flickr group and OH MY.  I NEED to make this BOM.  I NEED TOOOOO!!  I almost want to abandon my layer cake BOM for this one.  Seriously.

I can't stand how cute that bird is!!!
The blocks that people are turning out from the first block... I can't be left out of the fun.  I just can't!  So I'm going to do it.  Oh geez.  Just add it to my ever-growin, never-ending list.  But I have resolved that I will make mine scrappy and work out of my stash.  And another thing I going to change is I'm not going to make my block borders out of 2.5" squares.  They will be solid.  Quicker to whip up and I won't lose my interest right off the bat.  My sewing machine is in for service.  UGH!  I want to get this started.  NOW!!

On another note!  Day 4 of the Be Mine blog tour is here.  Go on over and visit Kim's blog!  You won't be disappointed.  Her table runner??  ADORABLE!

Enjoy your day!
