Freemotion Quilting...

Can't be THAT hard. Can it??! Well, for me, it is! I took a freemotion quilting workshop today with my friend's mom who has been my quilting and sewing mentor this last year. Man. I thought, COOL! That's a piece of cake. I can handle it. Nope. I am just not coordinated enough. Thankfully it was a workshop and we were working with muslin quilt sandwiches so we can see our stitching easily and not waste good fabric on our efforts and working at our own pace. I think I spent 2 hours just getting the feel of everything. I will NOT show you my handy work. It is pitiful. I have LOTS of practice in my future. But I will practice since I really want to get the hang of this freemotion quilting.

Punkie had a great time trick or treating last night. We took her to my grandmother's neighborhood where I used to trick or treat. We went with my cousin and her 2 kids. Amelia did great saying her lines "Trick or Treat!" and "Thank You!". She got a ton of candy. I'm tired of looking at it already.

That's all I got. Oh. Don't forget... Fall back tonight. Turn your clocks back 1 hour and you get an extra hour of sleep... at least that is my excuse tomorrow morning!

Enjoy your night!
Jen :)

  1. I am right there with ya Jen, I have taken a couple classes and I always feel exhausted afterwards. My most helpful advice was not in a class, but with a very accomplished quilter though. She said draw a shape freehand and practice that way, something you can imagine in your mind and draw. So that would be a vine and leaf shape for me. It actually helped me.....LOLO... thats all I got for advice on that subject.....Lol..
Nice job Amelia, you are a sweet girl...enjoy your booty...

  2. Jen, after looking at all the projects you've made, and especially that ceramic pumpkin, I know you'll master that machine quilting in no time! Sorry I got delayed with the boo-ed thing - I've been distracted - you know. Trying to get back on track!

  3. Practice does help Jen. Just keep at it and you will come to love it. Amelia's costume was great! I am glad she got lots of candy.

  4. Ahhh, freemotion quilting. Yes, it CAN be that hard! I've done a few quilts in my time and still I'm often not happy with them. It takes a TON of practice.

I've had such fun reading about all the fun you've had with Miss Punkie Pie during my bloggy break. She's sooooo cute -- I'm sure you're having a blast!

  5. Well, that makes two of us...I think it can be very hard as well. Use invisible thread in the meantime, that is my hint. Thanks for the towel compliments, btw. I sure appreciate the encouragement.
