Impulsively last night, I started cleaning my fabric bins. I don't
know why. Maybe my brain said "that is IT! Organize yourself before
going any further!". I have no idea. But I started and found 3 baskets
of scraps. Little scraps, big scraps. Bits of fabric... some from my
favorite lines and not so favorite. Then I looked over at Amelia's
fabric bucket; which I should have taken a picture of. You wouldn't
believe the mountain of scraps that were in there and I had a vision.
Get rid of them. Throw them away and never look back.
I
went through them and kept some of the bigger pieces for myself and
Amelia. Some went into my Granny Square container because some day I
will finish those blocks. The rest? Well, here they are.
Well geez. I wish I could show you but blogger isn't uploading my photos. What gives, blogger??
I'll just have to tell you then. I threw out 4 bags of scraps. FOUR. Call me crazy but I just couldn't hang on to them anymore. I have a ton of projects started, another ton that I want to start and work on and all kinds of new fabric lines to go with said projects. Scraps? I won't do anything with them.
I feel like I broke one of the most cardinal rules of a quilter. Throwing out fabric. Don't throw stones.
It had to be done, my friends. It had to be done. And you know what? I feel much better doing it.
Enjoy your day!

You are in charge - do what you have to do. I think you could help out a lot of people by throwing out their scraps too!
ReplyDeleteI did that too, last weekend. I just had to get rid out some stuff and it's much better in my sewing room as a result. Sometimes you gotta purge.
ReplyDeleteI've been going through my fabric too! The scraps are next!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that lots of people are having problems uploading pictures through blogger. One way around it is to upload to Flickr and then copy and paste the HTML code that you can find under share on the individual picture.
I think your scraps jinxed you and made it so blogger can't show their picture! haha! no seriously, sometimes we all need a good clean out. good for you.
ReplyDeleteIt so hard to say goodby to scraps, be we have to do what we have to do, on you might me the next person on Horders TV.
ReplyDeleteoh Jen i can understand where you are coming from and you have to do what is right for you, good on you.xx
ReplyDeleteMore power to you!!!
ReplyDeleteI had to do that a couple of years ago Jen and it felt so good. Trust me, you won't miss them a a bit.
ReplyDeleteMom and I went through her fabric today. Some of it came home with me, and some of it went to Goodwill. She was so happy to have her stash pared down to what she really will use!
ReplyDeleteDid you see my last post? I mailed out FIVE packed flat rate boxes of scraps to fellow bloggers who were willing to pay postage. They were all so excited together them. I feel liberated in a way and now can focus on newer projects.
ReplyDeleteIf it made you feel better then it HAD to be done. Out with the old...in with the new. :-)
ReplyDeleteGood for you Jen! I should do the same thing, but I look at it and think there is something I could do with it.....the truth is I probably never will.
ReplyDeleteI love getting into those moods! Good job.

I can totally relate to the joy of throwing stuff out. A while ago I threw out all those tiny leftover balls of yarn and it felt so good!
ReplyDeleteIf you check out the post I wrote today on my blog, at the very end is a workaround for the stupid Blogger photo problem. Basically you can upload them from HTML mode.
Ya gotta do what ya gotta do LOL! I just threw out some scraps a few weeks ago and then I was reading a blog where she used the littlest of scraps and made a gorgeous quilt and I regretted it. But then, I haven't thought about it until now. Haha. Sometimes we just have to get some of the junk out of the way!
ReplyDeleteCould you please come and tackle my mess now?
ReplyDeleteI have been doing some throwing and sorting myself!!! Must be the time of year or something!
ReplyDeleteQuite often our stuff just becomes a burden and much of our scraps are like leftovers--they don't get better with age! January is a great time for purging, fabric, clothes, food, keep going!
