The end of Punkie's first school year is coming to a close very quickly and I was thinking of End of Year Thank You gifts for her teachers (she has 4 of them). And of course, I had BIG plans to get these all done a MONTH ago... but we all know how that goes. Amelia attends preschool within our elementary school and follows the school's calendar so she will have the summer off.
My first question... is it customary to give End of Year Thank You gifts? I gave them each a little something for Christmas but I would also like to give them something as a thank you for making Amelia's 1st year of preschool so enjoyable.
My thought was to make them each a fabric basket and also make a homemade sugar scrub and do a little pedicure basket. You know, getting ready for summer and cute feet. But I thought that was a bit cheesy but I need to put SOMETHING in the basket. I just have no idea what.
My other thought was to make them each a tote. But I wanted to give them each a monogrammed tote. I recently bought the Fat Quarter Fonts pattern book and I thought HOW CUTE to make them each a tote. I'm thinking I will hold off and do that idea this coming Christmas. I'm almost certain by this Christmas I will be laid off so I will have more than enough time to get 4 totes done so that I'm not rushing and making a mess out of seams or anything.
So? Any ideas out there other than what I'm thinking of doing? Is the fabric basket a cute idea? What do I put in it?? HELP!!

I think the idea of the pedicure basket is great... teachers deserve to be pampered as much as possible. But I know the one thing I wouldn't get for a teacher is a "teacher" themed present. They get a million of those. Even a movie gift card would be a nice treat.
ReplyDeleteFor my younger son's ECFE teachers we did May Baskets with geraniums... small but there are 6 instructors between parent/child so it adds up if it is much. It worked out the last day was April 30th. I believe if you do something at an unexpect time (like Thanksgiving...thankful for our teachers) you can do less, because it is usally the only gift rather than one of twenty.
ReplyDeleteFor my older sons teacher (1st grade) I am doing Terry Atkinsons little fat quarter bag.. the one that's small, just for keys, $ and maybe a sm camera with a DQ gift card. Depending on the demographic of your teachers... if they have older children, they are very busy in the summer going to games and have little time to cook.
Good luck...whatever you do, everyone appreciates being thought of.
I think the gift is appropriate. The fabric baskets are really cute, but will they be too much work to complete them? (I don't sew, but they look like a lot of work!) Some other suggestions are to make something smaller-- mini-totes or mini cloth envelopes (like a little wallet with a button-- I saw some adorable ones in a store yesterday made with vintage dish cloths) with gift cards inside, like Sinta suggsted, a movie card or a card for a book store or craft store.
ReplyDeleteI really liked your original idea! PERFECT
ReplyDeleteWell, aren't you nice. I can't say I've ever received end-of-the-year gifts from my students, the ungrateful little brats. Just kidding - I do teach high school, after all.
ReplyDeleteHave a look at this, it may give you some ideas:

And if all else fails - coffee and chocolates in that cute little Pink Penguin basket!
I've always given end of the year gifts to my two kids' teachers. At first I made them very nice cross stitch pictures. But once they were both in school that got to be a bit much so I started giving just a gift bag instead, sometimes with a candle and some shower gel or bubble bath. Chocolate is another good thing to include. They always love that! This year they each got a bird statue. Not homemade but still a little something to let them know their work is appreciated! :0)
ReplyDeleteHi again, Jen. I gave you an award today on my blog.

I always do end-of-year gifts - end of K I gave each a paper flip-flop and put a Baskin Robbins certificate in each - last year I found some very nice paper goods - strawberry plates/cups/napkins and strawberry shaped candles - I thought they'd be nice for a summer picnic. I always try to give something that can be used up. Your pedicure basket sounds great - can I have one too? :)
ReplyDeleteJust kidding.

I think the fabric baskets are a great idea. I use to do end of the year gifts. The kids always liked giving them to their teachers.
ReplyDeleteI love your idea, its something they can use...also those little fabric bags Sharons been making are cute too, maybe put in a nail file, nail polish...but the fabric baskets, love them!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOur teachers always liked a gift card -- no matter how small. They get so many "gifts" that they don't know what to do with them. How 'bout tucking a gift card into your baskets?
