Three in a row!

I think this is a record for me.  It's been a while since I've posted so often in one week.  I guess I have lots to say.  Thanks for all the ideas on keeping my boredom at bay.

I made a tote out of from Darla squares that I've had hanging around here.  I'm not crazy about it.  For one, I made the handles way too long for my comfort.  I like longer handles on totes but these are WAY long.  The pattern is from the 2009 BHG publication "Bags, Totes and Pin Cushions" (or something like that.  The book is upstairs right now).  I also tried to do an inset zipper for an inside pocket following this tutorial.  I messed it up and cut my initial opening too big and I had a hard time sewing the zipper.  THEN I thought I centered it on my lining; I measured twice.  When I put the lining in the bag, my pocket is off-center and to the left.  So yes, not my favorite tote.

I won't be making this pattern again.  Or if I do, it won't be with super long handles!

It still needs binding but I made a table runner for Easter.  I bought this kit from Connecting Threads a couple of years ago and put it away as soon as I got it because it was applique and I wasn't comfortable with the process.  And then I forgot about it.  When I cleaned and organized my sewing room last week, I found it and got it together.  It's cute.  I did outline quilting around the big squares and the HSTs.  Nothing fancy.

I have a few more things to talk about, but I'll do that tomorrow.

Enjoy your day!
Jen :)

  1. Wow, Miss Jen you've been a very busy quilter. Love the bags but I'm crazy about the bunnies. :-)

  2. The table runner is so cute! I love the little bunnies! I think the bag looks great. Remember, the zipper is inside so it wont get seen and you could shorted the straps, make them into a design feature! The fabric is gorgeous - Tanyan Wheelan?

  3. I like both projects, but I know how little things about a bag will bug you :( I just discovered Connecting Threads yesterday and I loved that bunny pattern but I have never tried appique before, so I decided against it. Very, very nice job! CUTE CUTE!

  9. Jen - your table runner is adorable. I'm sure Punkie loves it. I have nothing ready for Easter and with 2 kids, I'd better get it in gear! Your bag is cute too. I prefer longer straps but that's because I'm 6'1" and don't like my purses up under my arm strangling me! You are on a roll! Keep it up. Jenn

  10. It sounds like you are keeping yourself busy! Inhavent had time to sew at all this week. I LOVE the Easter table runner. Awesome job - I bet Punkie loves it too :)

I will get started on my Postage Stamp this weekend. Promise. Then we can post our progress. You don't have to wait for me though, if you want to keep going on it. My sewing time comes in spurts. I also have O'Cherries to baste, quilt and bind. And a room to paint. So much to do, so little time!

  11. I like the bag! It's just a bit wonky! You could always tie a knot in each handle to shorten them a bit. I did that with one bag I made. Love the runner too! :0)

  12. Very cute bunny table runner pattern! I seldom see an Easter pattern, for things such as that, that I really like, but I love this! I'm sure it's not available anymore though.:) Good job! Your purse is adorable, you're too hard on yourself!

  13. The bag is cute, despite your issues. I hate when I have issues...makes me almost hate the end product too. The runner is darling. I need to put away my Christmas stuff? I still have about 4 snowy things out. I guess it isn't terrible considering the snow just melted.
