We are now an official farm. On the books for taxes as a farm. Imagine that? A city girl marries a old country boy and is now living in the sticks on a farm. Never thought in my big hair, head-banging music days that I would be living on a farm in my adult life!
Yes. A farm. We currently have 3 goats as "pets". I want 2 more. Pygmy ones but I can't find any at the moment. We will be getting the pigs again this year. We are adding chickens (egg laying hens and meat hens) and steer. Goats, pigs, cows and chickens. What did I get myself into?! My husband is also leasing land to plant corn for grain. There's some money to made in grain corn. Who knew?!
We're stuck for a name for our farm. Because I want a sign at the end of our driveway marking the farm. Why not? My husband's ultra creative mind came up with "C&J Farm". Amelia is upset because her name isn't part of the farm's name and she should be upset. It is as much hers as ours. So I'm thinking of incorporating a block name from quilting and then having that quilt block put on our sign. Clever, yah?
So, help me think of a name for our farm. Please?? Just throw out anything. Something has got to stick. I did a little looking around online but I haven't really LOOKED. So far my list has one possible name on it: Bright Hopes Farm. But the quilt block is BORING.
Another name I came up with over the weekend was "My Husband Wants the Farm but I'm Reluctant" Farm. Not catchy enough though. ;)
I appreciate the help!

I think it's super exciting that you live on a farm Jen!! I'm a farm girl!!!
ReplyDeleteI've got the perfect name... WEATHERVANE FARM...and the block is so cute too.
I looked up quilt blocks with Yankee in the names but didn't really see anything. I'll keep you in mind, although I'm terrible at naming things. I love Mary's suggestion!
ReplyDeleteHi! What about a C, looking like a moon sliver, with J and A hanging from it, on an official block for your state. I looked it up once on the web and each state has their own block. I was going to say Ohio Star, but you are probably not in Ohio!
ReplyDeleteOr J and C at the same level, then initials of A and any future children, on something like a Tree of Life block?
Good luck, Leslie
what a cute idea. I'm clueless but I think the suggestions already made are terrific.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea and would have to give it thought for your farm.
ReplyDeleteWhile I read this blog it made me think of the land we just purchased and name of street. I hate the name: "Invershield" While out hunting for a land purchase there was the sweetest name "Sawtooth Court"...oh how I wanted our property to be on "Sawtooth Court"....way better than "Invershield!!"
What if you have Amelia look through some quilt photos...see what delights her and go from there? She will really feel a part of then.
I am horribled at naming things, but I think having Amelia pick out a quilt block and designing the name around that was a great suggestion. How exciting!!!

ReplyDeleteI think you are fortunate to live on a farm, it sounds wonderful. I would love that except the animals would all have to be my permanent pets. Not sure about a name ... don't know the name of quilt blocks. I tried combining city girl with country boy and only came up with "City Sticks Farm". Probably not what you're looking for.
ReplyDeleteHow about Punkie's Farm. Yeah, named after your little sweetie.
ReplyDeleteI'm terrible with names! But congratulations on the farm! Our neighbor has pygmy goats and they're so much fun! She's got babies due in another week or so and I can't wait! :0)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the farm! Best of luck with a name, it's not an easy one. My husband and I just named our acreage as "Ache-N-Back Acres". Funny, but oh so true!
ReplyDeleteI like your idea about the sign and you've had a couple of good suggestions. I'll let you know if I think of one.
ReplyDeleteOh I think it will be fun to name the farm...I will think about it.
ReplyDeleteIsn't there a Shoo Fly block? If not just design your own.
ReplyDeleteI think every farm with smelly animals could relate to that name.
Im so jealous, always wanted tons of animals....
ReplyDeletelol...name your farm..."from big hair to little goats" lol..or little goat farm....
I LOVE this idea, Jen! A quilt block with a picture of it and the name on a sign? YES! Of course I have absolutely no ideas off-hand, but I will think about it. I am so jealous that you're getting chickens! I always wanted egg-layers. Can't wait to see your menagerie! :-) xo Jen
