In Baby Mode

Nooooo.  Not me.  My cousin, who is also a very close friend.  You could actually call her my best family friend.  Growing up, if there were family functions that we were attending, the question was always "Is Denise going?" "Is Jen going?".  We had a great time together growing up and now as adults, watching our kids grow up together.

Denise is expecting her 2nd baby - a boy - at the end of November.  Now that my sewing mojo has found its way home, my mind has been on overdrive, trying to figure out what to gift to this newest bundle of sweetness.

I found some fun tutorials online for bibs and dressing up those cloth diapers to use as burp cloths.  I bought some flannel and hoping to go to town on some baby sewing soon.  I'm going to make some whole cloth blankets.  I'm a slow piecer/sewer so making a quilt isn't in the cards.  I want cute, homemade but QUICK!

Stay tuned.  I hope to have a little something to show you soon.

Enjoy your day!

My 1st BOM Rehab

Imagine.  Sinta started this group back in March and I finally worked on a BOM and can join in the fun!  All my blocks were finished.  They were just waiting for me.  They wait no more!  I got them into a filmsy.  Awesome!

FQS 2010 BOM using 12 Days of Christmas by Kate Spain.

I didn't buy the finishing kit.  I just did my own thing.  The sashing and borders are from Kate's Flurry fabric line.  I'm very happy these blocks are in top form.  I'm thinking of backing in flannel for some winter snuggling on the couch.

Now I can start on the 2012 BOM using Vintage Modern with a clear conscience.  I've been collecting the monthly packets but storing them away for the time being.  I may pull block 1 out soon and get started.

Enjoy your day!

All was not lost afterall

My husband.  He is a good man.  He kindly entertained Punkie for a good part of the weekend.  They mucked out the barn.  He took her to watch the corn get combined.  He took her to see the calves at a local farm.  He just spent some time with her.  In turn, I had time to sew!  Not as much as I wanted to do but I did get 2 out of the 3 projects on my list done.  I had a mini solo sew-a-thon.

Happy girl here.

Those Christmas Pixie fairies panel?  I got them all done up.  Wanna see?

Isn't it CA-UUUUUUTE???  The tote pattern is the Tahoe Tote by Pink Sand Beach Designs.  I've had the pattern forever and never did anything with it.  I walked into my LQS last week and BAM!  There was their store sample, using the pattern and the pixie fairy fabric.  Oh yes.  I needed to make one.  Bonus that the pattern was already in my pattern stash.  I have 2 more fairies to do something with.  I may make them into throw pillows.

Happy dance!  Got a new tote for the Christmas season.  I can't wait to use it!

Come back tomorrow to see the 2nd project I got finished.

Enjoy your day!

My solo weekend sew-a-thon

I had plans for this weekend.  Big plans.  The three projects that I wanted to work on and complete are sitting, just waiting patiently for tomorrow evening.  A solo sew-a-thon.  And POOF.  It's not going to happen.

I just talked to my Mom (Punk was going over there for the weekend) and she has the flu.  :(  So no weekend with Grandma for Punk.  No solo weekend for me.  No sewing.

I am bummed.  I was so looking forward to hanging out in my sewing room.

Feel better Mom but feel sorry for me please.  :)

Enjoy your day!

Christmas Pixie Fairies

I popped into my LQS on Friday, on the hunt for baby flannel.  My cousin is expecting her 2nd at the end of November (a boy) and I have a list of quick gifts I would like to make for her.  I found some of what I wanted and then I popped into their quilting fabrics room and saw a store sample that I NEEDED to make.  Thankfully I already have the pattern.

I don't want to show you what it is but it involves these cuties:

I'm itching it get started so it won't be long before I show you what they turn out to be!  I'm SURE I will have to make a few more as gifts.

Stay tuned!

Slowly, finding my way back

Sewing and blogging have taken a big backseat over here.  Work has been crazy busy and lots of drama (no need to go into that) but I've been slowly finding my way back to my happy place.

Back in early August, I started a birthday present for a friend but I hated how it came out so it ended up in Punkie's fabric bin.  Now, my friend's birthday has come and gone... in August and I feel terrible that I haven't made any time to work on something else for her.

I dug out my Strawberry Fields layer cake and a new pattern that I bought ages ago and started over.  Here's what I ended up with and you know?  I love it and want to make one for myself but in a more yellow/gray colorway from the layer cake.

The pattern is called Candy Cane Candy Dish* but I don't know the maker off the top of my head.  I will check if anyone is interested.  I had some issues with the pinwheels.  They are supposed to alternate dark to light diagonally and the printed diagram versus the picture on the cover were making me batty.  They didn't match.  I ripped and re-sewed those little pinwheels twice and I still got it wrong in spots.  I should have re-done the center pinwheel too.  Oh well.  Live and learn.

*edited: got a correction (thanks Carol!).  the pattern name is Candy Dish by This and That Patterns.

I have a few other projects that I've started cutting and I have resurrected Swoon.  Remember Swoon?  Well turns out, I only have 1 more block to cut and finish.  But I totally mixed up my FQs and I have no idea what I had decided on.  I spent some time this morning going back through my finished blocks and my FQs and figuring out my last block combination.

That's all here for now.  I hope to not stay away from my sewing machine for so long nor my blog.  I've been missing you guys.  Please come back to visit!

Enjoy your day!
